I Like My Disney Dark

Paranoid Android

So I went and saw WALL•E last night...buying into all the positive hype it was receiving and I ended up absolutely loving it...and this is coming from someone who loathes Disney and anything associated with it (except for the occasional Hannah Montana episode). The movie is adorable and amusing while also teetering on the dark and subversive side. I really dug the sci-fi elements and feelings of robo-isolation at the beginning before WALL•E and Eve take off to space. The visuals are arresting and although the “special environmental message” is a little heavy handed, Wall•e and Eva's love story shines through. So go out and see Wall-E...probably one of the most entertaining blockbuster films to be released this summer (that is of course, until the new Batman movie comes out).

2008: the Midpoint

Believe it or not but we have floated half way through 2008 already…mind boggling, I know! It feels like just yesterday I was in Brooklyn ringing in the new year playing Rock Band.

Anywho…I am currently a very busy and excited person. I’ll be heading to the beach in a few days for a week of debauchery in Ocean City and then when I return I’ll be moving from South Side to my new geek-pad apartment in Lawrenceville (Seth and I will be slowly takin' over the neighborhood!). Oh…and did I mention that I was recently accepted into grad school and will be starting in the Fall at Pitt, once again? Also this past weekend I got to meet one of my favorite authors, David Sedaris, who stopped in Pittsburgh on a book tour….which was an interesting experience except for the crazy old kook who sat next to me, pestering me with ridiculous questions. She argued with me that David was a Pittsburgh native (I think she had him confused with Michael Chabon?).

In honor of it being the half way point of 2008 here is a short list of my favorite "newish" musical artists of the year accompanied with a few songs:

MGMT- my favorite new band to break out this year...also excited to hear more stuff from the Black Kids (already posted songs by both in previous entries)

No Age- Teen Creep

Flight of the Choncords (currently obsessed with)- Ladies of the World

Santogold- Lights Out

favorite album cover so far this year

And finally my cheezy early-summa 08 jam:
Lil Wayne- Lollipop

p.s. Have a happy Friday the 13th tomorrow...I know I will!!!
