"...random thoughts for Valentine's day, 2008. Today is a holiday invented by greeting card companies to make people feel like crap."

It's the first Valentines day in 2 years I've been single and the only valentines day card I received was from my mom...bummer. But on the flip side I've recently seen two excellent movies and the monster of a skin infection thats was on my face has almost faded away. The first of the two great films I've recently seen is Control.

It's a bio-pic of Ian Curtis, signer of one of my favorite post-punk bands, Joy Division. The movie is a bit on the depressing side but that has never been an issue for me and the cinematography is beautiful. It was shoot in black and white and it reminds me of an old 50's/60's new wave film. And of course the soundtrack is damn good. I was also lucky enough to see a very unique film called, Lars and the Real Girl, starring Ryan Gosling (who does an amazing job).

Its about a disillusioned introvert who believes the "relationship" he is having with Bianca, a sex doll he ordered online, is real. Judging by the plot, you would think that this would be either a raunchy comedy or a really graphic & disturbing film, but rather it is a surprisingly sweet & warm film about a man struggling with his past and a small town helping him through it. Highly recommend it.
